SC State University Career Center To Host A Series of Workshops and Seminars

SC State University?s Career Center will be hosting a new series of workshops and seminars for the Spring 2013 semester designed to assist students in preparing for post-graduation opportunities.

?This year we will feature key presenters from various backgrounds to include University faculty and staff who will provide students with the knowledge and skills to be successful,? says Joseph Thomas, career center director. ?This will also enable our students to gain competitive jobs, internships, and scholarships with top corporations throughout the world.?

Opening the Series will be Pamela R. Bingham, principal of Bingham Consulting Services, headquartered in Washington, D.C. Bingham, who will speak on the topic: ?Internships, Scholarships & Fellowship Counseling, ?? Bingham will visit SC State on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013 at 3:30 p.m. in Belcher Hall Suite 250.

Bingham is a policy and engineering consultant/leader/advocate passionately committed to environmental sustainability, progressive environmental policy, community based leadership and the diversification of science and engineering. She became involved in renewable energy and ?green? issues before they became ?trendy.? Her career spans 25 years in the corporate, small business, higher education, nonprofit and local government sectors. Bingham?s expertise encompasses education and workforce training, policy, project management and compliance, healthcare, emergency management, public participation and technical assistance to numerous grassroots organizations.

The technical assistance needs of communities motivated this Jackson, Miss native to tackle emergency management and recovery particularly after Hurricanes Andrew (FL), Hugo (NC-SC), and Katrina (MS/LA/TX). Since 2005, she has organized architects, engineers, engineering students and others to aid the Gulf recovery. Moving to New Orleans for two years, she was a subcontractor for the Unified New Orleans Plan; counseled leaders and helped develop new energy/environmental policies; and directed the Clinton Climate Initiative. She continues to support recovery activities in the region.

She is a graduate of the Johns Hopkins University Leadership Development Program for Minority Managers and University of Florida where she was student government president representing more than 36,000 students and managed a budget of $3 million. She is the only African-American female SG president to date and also chaired the Florida Student Association representing all Florida college students. She was one of six interns in the state of Florida selected for Walt Disney World?s prestigious Parks Management Internship Program. She also secured other competitive internships in the Office of the University President, Shands Hospital, a Virginia Fortune 100 manufacturing company, Florida utility company (now Progress Energy), and Environmental Protection Agency.
