Community Gathers to Build Mound View Garden

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KGAN/KFXA) -- Neighbors hope a new garden will help grow more than just vegetables.

People worked to dig up and build the new Mound View garden Sunday.

The neighborhood association hopes this will be a center piece to grow relationships in the area, especially after the school district's decision to repurpose Polk Elementary.

Matthew 25 also teamed up and will provide educational lessons for kids in the area.

"Some of those kids come back together and have a project to work on as a family again, which is very much in the spirit of what Polk had to offer," volunteer Dan Alpers says.

"I think it's something that we need to do. Everybody loves a garden," says Nicole Sales, Mound View Neighborhood Association president.

The garden is located off 14th Street and B Avenue just west of the fire station.Community Gathers to Build Mound View Garden
