Children And Teens Are Increasingly Becoming Obese ...

Lots of scientists, researchers and professionals have been watching this growing trend for decades. Kids, pre-teen and teens have been gaining weight steadily and the health implications of this are crazy. A plethora of research and study has been performed in the last twenty-plus years. One thing is for sure, obesity that happens in the early years is a serious risk factor for terrible diseases later in life. It is incredibly important that parents understand that this story is more involved than just this. Kids who are clinically obese and grossly overweight will experience these health effects a long time before they grow to be adults.

Obesity puts a lot of stress on all physical parts of the human body. When it comes to the respiratory system, obese children are prone to potentially dangerous obstructive sleep apnea due to being overweight. Normal breathing is also something that can be affected by being obese.

Asthma can be developed if a child or young adult is overweight. If you have a problem with your normal breathing process, it may also be referred to as an exercise intolerance. You may have noticed that overweight people often have labored breathing. Because your body is having to work harder, it has to breathe harder, so this is a natural response. Because of this stress will increase on your entire cardiovascular system.

Pretty much anybody who is obese is forced to deal with a bunch of psychological challenges. When a child feels like he is under constant abuse from peers he is more likely to hate himself, not have any self confidence and have severe stress and anxiety issues. Those are the silent symptoms the obese child or teen endures, and perhaps even all alone. Once the situation has progressed far enough and for years, then that person may develop sociopathic behaviors. There isnt any real data to say how many obese teenagers go on to college. Our guess is that there arent that many or that the number of obese high school students is much higher than the number of obese college students. Would that really be surprising since so many are probably worried about enduring even more years of torture and abuse?

Researchers are still not sure about a direct relationship between obesity and the early onset of puberty, and more so in girls than boys. Obviously, though, there is also some common sense in looking at what we already know. For example, it is known that obese and overweight children grow at a faster rate, and they do enter puberty earlier. But it is a situation in which a clear determination of causality needs to be made. Obviously early onset puberty is not as terrible a threat as other conditions that are related to childhood obesity but there can be implications that accompany the abnormally young age for puberty to set in for these kids. There is a real problem with kids and teens who suffer from obesity that affects other people too. You need to think about the cost this has on overall society. Kids who are obese are probably going to grow up into adults who are obese and that means that they will have to deal with things like medical costs, etc. This proves that obesity is really a problem for society even though that isnt at the forefront of most peoples awareness.
