Garden Vegetables #4: My Red Lettuce | Love Home Grow Garden

I must say, I am happy that I was able to harvest this Red lettuce twice last month. It was my first time to plant them. I remember I bought a tray of 8 seedlings in it at Lowe?s for $4 and I only planted 3 of them on my raised garden bed. I gave the rest to my brother in law?s garden. My red lettuce survived very well than his because he planted them in his in-ground garden. Mine survived very well because I have a raised garden and that I planted it on the area where there?s a big shade of a tree in late afternoons. I read that they are heat sensitive plants so once they get too much sunlight, they bolt and taste bitter (and you won?t like that). So be sure to plant them early spring to early summer so you can harvest a lot of times during low temperatures in your area.

This is one of the blooming red lettuce out of three in my garden. The other lettuce on top is the romaine and boy they taste good together when you mix them in your salad bowl. Put some?vinaigrette and pine nuts and voila, you?re eating fresh vegetables straight out from your garden.
